No silly questions

I often receive questions about how our club is different to Swim Lessons and other Swimming Clubs. Thought I’d share a recent email I sent back to one of our soon to be new families…..
********
Firstly certainly there no silly questions.
We are a Swimming Club, not a Swim School however not your typical Swimming Club. We do offer a Stroke Correction program which runs from 5.30pm - 6.15pm each Tuesday before we start racing at 6.30pm. The difference with Stroke Correction is its a big group of swimmers and our coaches aren't teachers, instead people who have a very strong swimming background. We split the swimmers into 3 groups, beginners, intermediates and advanced. Beginners are generally the younger ones who swim the 12.5m each week, still very much learning but want to get extra practice and still swim in the races.
The only prerequisite that we require is a swimmer must be able to swim 12.5m unassisted. This doesn't mean they need to be able to do the actual stroke correctly, we have some very weird and wonderful strokes that take place in the younger years. As they get older you'll start to see proper strokes taking shape and that is also when we start to hold our swimmers accountable to rules like making sure they touch the end of the pool length during distance races or at the end of a race.
I often give the following example to anyone who has such enquires as yours; we had a swimmer join towards the middle of last season, she hadn't had swimming lessons, she started out on the 12.5m and actually only joined because her older sister was part of the club and she was attending the nights anyway to watch her sister. This particular swimmer quickly started to tackle the longer lengths and you now see her competing each week in our 100m Medley, she ended up receiving our Encouragement Award at last years end of season event. This story makes me extremely proud of our club, we give our swimmers this opportunity to grow and develop howTHEY want to. We aren't forcing 4am Squad Training down their throats, instead providing an environment for them to become the swimmer they want to be.
Occasionally we may offer an extra Saturday morning training session, we have access to a Swimming Coach who runs her own pool in Inglewood and she has swimmers competing at Nationals, Naomi comes down to join our Club when we attend or host Swimming Meets with other clubs, she takes the opportunity to run some extra coaching for us when she has availability.
I'd welcome you to come down this coming Tuesday night to see what you think. Bring swimmers, a swim cap and googles if its a preference (most of our swimmers do wear them), if you don't have these already we do have these items available to purchase in our canteen.
If you have any other questions please shoot them through otherwise we may see you on Tuesday night.
Amie
